First of all, if your cats are ok with it, crystal is the only way to go in my opinion. The odor control of it alone is worth any extra dollars you might spend. Also, it’s ease of maintenance surpasses all other types. Just scoop out the poop and give it a stir with the scooper when you do in order to allow the crystals to absorb more. You don’t add more litter as you go. The crystals absorb and mask the odor until they have reached saturation. Then you change out the entire pan. Even if you leave the poop in for a couple days for whatever reason, you won’t smell it (unless of course you enter the room right after the cat has done his business). The crystals dry it out and the odor is gone. Not the slightest bit messy to scoop out.

I have used generic versions which have been ok (still better than clumping stuff), but have used another major name brand for years. I’ve been very happy with this other name brand. I bought Nature’s Miracle because it was on sale once. I’ve always liked Nature’s Miracle products, so I figured it was worth a shot. This stuff lasted twice as long as the other name brand. Normally, I split an 8lb bag between two boxes. With two cats, I’m usually changing them around the two week mark – three if I’m lucky / lazy. I change it when I start to smell the urine, which is a smell you can detect in almost any household that uses clay or clumping litters, no matter how religiously the boxes are cleaned. I’m very sensitive to the smell. My mother is also very sensitive to animal odors. Believe me, she would have no problem telling me that my house smells like cats, but she has always commented how odor free my house is (and I am NOT a great cleaner). The kids don’t always stir the boxes when they scoop, so when I change them, the odor is always strong at the bottom of the box.

Enter Nature’s Miracle. Did the same process. One bag split between two litter boxes. Cats immediately accepted it. After a few weeks, I kept entering my house intentionally trying to smell if the boxes needed to be changed. Nothing. After four weeks, I finally said, I don’t care if there is a smell or not.. I need to change them. I was expecting a very strong odor at the bottom of the boxes as always. I was blown away when I discovered that the odor was very minimal as I changed them. I could have easily gotten at least another week out of it!

I’m sure the potency of every cat’s urine can be different. I’m simply comparing the different litters with the same cats. Nature’s Miracle is now the only litter I will use. The price is the same as the other name brand and is often on sale for a cheaper price.

I work with a cat adoption group. When someone asks for my advice about litter with cats older than six months, I have to always tell them that the crystal is my litter-type of choice. Now I will definitely recommend Nature’s Miracle. I am well aware that not all cats accept it, but it is definitely worth a shot.

We just adopted our cat last week. I had 2 litter boxes set up. The downstairs one had clay/clumping litter and the upstairs one had Nature’s Miracle Crystal and I really liked that box much better. I have to say I prefer the crystal litter to the clumping. The clumping clay was so heavy and just icky. I had my husband dump out the clay this morning and we have made the downstairs litter box a crystal one as well. I like the fact that all you do is stir the litter after the cat pees. I can see how this will save money compared to clumping because I noticed the clumping litter box was running low in just a week and I filled it pretty high last week. My cat pees a lot because she drinks a lot of water. She’s a Bengal and they love to drink. I haven’t had my kitty poop in the crystal yet since we just changed out the downstairs box and that’s where she poops. Tonight will be the true test. That’s why I just gave it 4 stars because I haven’t seen it in action for poop yet. I’m very on top of cleaning out waste from the litter box so I can see this litter working for us.

Update: so far I love this kitty litter! I will be buying crystal litter all the time. When kitty poops, there is only a smell right in the beginning (fresh poop smell) but after that there’s virtually no smell at all. When it’s time to change the litter, I just take the whole box out and dump the old litter. It’s very light compared to clay litter. We recently got a new Bengal kitten to keep our new Bengal cat company. The kitten had no issues with the crystal litter.

This is the best litter I have found for my cat. I wonder how it would work in an automated box but I have had good luck using it in the two meows litter box https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MNO32DS . My cat has enormous pees which can create huge lumps in clumping litter. With these crystals the fluid gets absorbed and then evaporates. If I scoop and mix it daily then it does not build up a wet zone daily hence avoiding an amonia smell from aging. I used larger crystals but they did not absorb as well and were rougher on the cats paws. Also, crystal litter shrinks the poop to a very small size and a slotted scoop with slots slim enough to keep the poops also retained a fair amount of litter. I tried finer crystals but they were more expensive, scattered more easily and did not really work as well, also they were dusty. There is also some fragrence realised when the crystals are moistened. It is both effective and subtle. I only notice it when I am down close scooping, but I appreciate it.

Frequent stirring really adds to the life span of the crystals. I rigged up an extra inexpensive laptop cooler fan I had to continuously blow across the litter (you can see it with my two meows litter pan). I think it makes a real difference. Probably angling in so it blows doneward at an angle would be an improvement. A somewhat more powerful fan might also help.
