This is a plastic laser pointer toy for cats, that has soft touch buttons that remind me of a remote control’s. It provides a strong red dot that travels across my really long great room with ease. All 10 of my cats would rate the laser pointer right up there with the catnip, but my family gets a lot of enjoyment out of the laser pointer too. We LOVE playing with and watching them go after that elusive red dot. Sometimes it is fun just to shine it on the ceiling and watch them track it. Running it across a nice wide room and up a door or wall is fun too. It’s great to watch them jump for it.
I know of no other toy that cats like better than a laser toy. My cats go ga-ga for them, and they enjoy this one. They especially like to play with one when it is cold out and they are inside for longer periods of time. I can’t IMAGINE having kittens without one. When my crew of 4 siblings were kittens, we had a ball running the laser light across the kitchen floor onto the door. It was easy to tell who the athletic one was by seeing how would jump the highest. Our little handicapped cat could not join in but she loved to watch, and when the others grew tired, we’d shine it around where she lay, so she could play with her front paws without having to get up. We still play with her a lot like this, so don’t think that cats have to be very athletic to enjoy them – if they can reach a paw out, they can play.
This one blinks or has a steady dot. One click, it comes on and blinks, another click, and it is steady. There’s no fancy patterns, but my experience is that cats could care less about that. I like that this one does not look like a pen, because the pen kind are easy to lose, and they always seem to tear up in a month or two, and many have to have the button held down for the light to come on. This one DOES NOT – once you press the button, you are done. It might sound lazy but after several minutes play, holding a button down can get very tiresome!
This one takes 2 AAA batteries. The only concern I have about it is that knowing us, we might eventually lose the battery compartment back, or drop the unit and have it fly off and never fit back on right again. If it does, duct tape will be on the handle. The cover isn’t really needed. It is secure though and with proper care (Not the kind usually given by my family, ha!) it should last. I consider this a trade off for the fact that it does NOT require a screwdriver to open, so the batteries are easy to change out.
The only way I’d like this better were if it were USB rechargeable. I do like that it takes AAA batteries though. Most laser pointers will take the button cells that can be harder to find and put in right.

Greatest laser toy ever!!! Comfortable to hold because of size and shape, and I LOVE that I don’t have to hold down a button- the light stays on with one press and goes off with another. Steady and flashing dot options as well. Even better still- uses normal AAA batteries, not those little round ones that I can never be bothered to replace– so this will be the last one I ever have to buy!

I seem to have bought the last one at this time, and I’m so glad I did, because my cats Jupiter and Luna love this laser pointer so much, it has different settings, intermittent and solid phases, and it gets them great cardio which I think is important for an indoor cutie.
