The vet recommended I give my aging cat joint treats, and this is one of two brands I tried. This one is my cat’s favorite. Whatever it is they put in these things, apparently it’s really tasty. She’s indifferent to the usual kind of treats, like canned tuna or catnip, but she really, really loves these joint treats. They’re a bit big, though, so they’re a little hard for her to eat without the treat rolling around or falling out of her mouth quite a bit before she finally consumes it, but she likes the taste so much, that little difficulty doesn’t seem to bother her. She’s been on joint treats for over a month now, and she doesn’t seem to be experiencing any more arthritic pain, so it seems to be working well, too.

UPDATE 12/6/12: My cat has been on these treats for three and a half years. She’s over 16 years old now. We introduced a kitten to the household about two years ago, and so I had to start hiding the bag of joint treats in the cupboard. I can’t leave it out any more because the little guy will do everything he can to try to chew his way into the bag and get at the treats for himself. I guess that means he loves the flavor, too. He’s not allowed any, though, because he’s on his own special diet.

Anyway, around a year ago the joint treats seemed to start losing their effect on my older cat. Her arthritis appeared to be getting worse — she got real upset at times when anyone touched her back. It came and went, as arthritic pain seems to come and go for humans as well. Having a playful kitten around probably didn’t help. She also didn’t groom herself as much, at least in places on her body that are harder for her to reach, resulting in matted fur. I couldn’t groom her myself, though, without her experiencing a lot of pain, so it was a difficult time. She’s not as limber or as able, and she no longer bothers to climb to higher levels, staying mostly close to the floor. I haven’t had a chance to ask the vet yet if it is OK to do this, but some months ago I increased her dose of joint treats to three a day instead of just two a day, and it appears to have helped. She is back to where she was when I first started giving her joint treats.

She’s old, and she’s cautious, so she’s still not as limber, and she still stays close to the ground, but she doesn’t appear to be in a lot of pain any more. I’m able to groom her with a brush along her back, and she doesn’t complain as she used to. Some of her teeth are gone, so every morning I break the treats up in smaller pieces, and I use them to “garnish” her breakfast meal. She still eats them up eagerly, so I finally got around to subscribing; I now get the joint treats in my mail regularly without my having to think about it.

This product changed my cat’s life. At 14 years old he got to a point where he could not jump on the bed, or the couch anymore, and had trouble climbing the stairs. A few weeks after taking Pet Naturals Hip & Joint for Cats (2 times a day) that all changed. Now he can jump and climb again. Thanks Pet Naturals.

PS not all Hip & joint or Glucosamine products are the same they might have some or most of the same Ingredients but not in the same or right amounts.

After the first bag, one-month, the big boy with the hip arthritis has gotten some apparent relief, jumping up onto the kitchen chair a little more easily and his gait is a little more steady than before. The sprinkle-powder available from the vet is likely at least as effective but, with multiple cats, meds on food can be a problem. Also, in the past, the sprinkle-on meds have resulted in turned-up noses. The flavor of these chews is apparently great, as Milo scarfs them up the second he smells them. The other cats can smell the flavoring on my hands, so follow me around looking for a hit of the good stuff. If continued improvement is noted, will upgrade to 5-stars.

update: stopped the chews for 8-days after the bag ran out. Unfortunately, my old boy has begun stumbling around again due to arthritis of hip. So it looks like these chew supplements really work. Bumping to 5-star and re-ordering.

5-month Update: Since July, he’s been less and less eager to scarf-up these med treats. It’s odd, as he had liked them a lot previously. Both the big boy with the hip issues and his younger brother have been becoming WAY more fussy with both food and these supplements. I don’t know if it’s emotional (they lost their brother recently) or something else but it’s a pain—they even stopped eating the prev. popular Natural Balance Pea-Duck dry food. Anyhow, as for this Hip Joint chew, it is effective and affordable IF the cat likes the flavor. Rating for price/effectiveness is 5, rating overall because of our presently fussy cat is 3-4, I guess. Certainly worth a try, as the results were notable.
