We have a ruby Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. This is a breed that goes from heavy shedding at certain times of the year to even heavier at other times. We are at an even heavier time right now so I was anxious to try these grooming tools on her. Our dog isn’t particularly fond of getting groomed and she has even less patience for it if the tools pull her hair a lot.
We first used the rake side of the brush on her back and sides. This side slid easily through her hair and generally straightened her coat. Perhaps because she has long hair and sheds a lot but the rake side removed a lot of loose hair. This was good because she tolerated the rake well. When we turned the brush over to use the de-shedding side, I did not expect we would be able to pull such a fine tooth brush through her thick and wavy hair but it worked very well. Our dog gets mats right at the base of her ears. The de-shedding side did a good job of getting the small ones out before they turn to big ones.
The area where our dog hates grooming the most is her ears, which is a shame because the long ear hair is a signature feature of the CKCS. For this area, we found the comb worked great. We were able to get enough strokes through her ears to remove a lot of the loose hair there and to make them look like they should.
As for the tools themselves, both the brush and the comb appear well constructed. The brush particularly is slightly heavy in the hand and feels well made. The pivoting head is a nice feature, too. The brush bristles and comb teeth are smooth with blunted ends so they won’t hurt your pet’s skin.
I would have to say our first grooming experience with these tools was a success. Hopefully our dog will learn to tolerate grooming a little better over time because she’s such a beautiful dog when she’s groomed and I wouldn’t mind having less hair on the floor. If your dog doesn’t like grooming, it may be the tools you’re using. If you’re getting a new dog or know someone who is, its smart to get a quality grooming set like this one and to get your dog used to grooming at a young age.

The brush and a comb are constructed of a durable plastic with rubber coated handles and stainless steel comb teeth. The brush has two sides. The smaller comb is the deshedding: it measures 3 inches long and features narrowly spaced, short teeth that’ll help you grab loose hair and the dead undercoat of your pet. This side of the tool can help reduce overall shedding when used for 10-20 minutes one to two times a week. On the opposite side is the rake, with rounded teeth tips at two different heights for untangling knotted hairs.
The straight comb has the longest teeth, also rounded with a fine spaced end, for delicate and sensitive parts of your pet like face and legs, and a wide spaced side for the main body. This comb can be used for every day maintenance of a healthy coat. My long haired cat always has tangles in her hair which end up in hard knotted balls. She loves this brush and comb set because if takes care of her messy hair and keeps her tangle free. She knows which set it is because when I try to use her old spike brushes, she bats them away.
