I bought this on Amazon under a different name (Undercover Mouse) but was sent Cat’s Meow brand toy. One of my cats loves it, sits by it, comes running when I turn it on, or even hears me moving it. She’ll play with it for an hour or more if I let her, which is great because my two indoor cats can use the exercise and extra mental amusement etc. Second cat is totally disinterested, but that’s mostly because the first one monopolizes it.

It uses 3x C batteries, and I recommend you get rechargeables, or else YOU may lose interest in this toy. It would be awesome if they could add a motion sensor so it turns on when cat comes near and turns off when they grow bored – then they could play with it while I’m away.

If you must buy this thing, do it through Amazon for the easy return, which will likely happen. Here’s the unhappy truth: My elderly mother saw the 2 for 1 TV ad – something like 2 for $20 plus P&H. The call center was noisy, the rep fast talking. She ordered the TV special, nothing more. When it arrived, there were three in the box, with no invoice. She put them aside, waiting for me to install batteries, etc. Didn’t think about them again until she got her credit card bill several weeks later. Disbelief – $93.73!!! They billed her $29.99 for the box with two, plus $15.90 for P&H. Then they added $24.99 for the other toy, which she had not ordered – plus, get this, PLUS another $15.90 for P&H. But wait, there’s more!!! They charged an additional $6.95 for priority processing, which she did not ask for. I think there is a legal word for this which I will not state here, but may if I speak to the Attorney General’s office. Although outraged, my mother did not want to deal with this company and decided to give the other two toys as gifts. Who has the time and energy for this? Guess that’s what the company is counting on. Just eat it.

By the time I see this thing to assemble it, the 30 day warranty has expired. Got hers up and running – cat loved it, but C batteries lasted just one day or less. So . . .I bought her rechargeable C batteries (over $20 for 4) and a charger. Yes, throwing good money after bad, mea culpa. Our cat also loved hers, which lasted for about a day until the internal gears stripped. Took it apart to find two cheap gears attached to the swing arm via a small belt. No clutch mechanism evident. So guess what? The cat grabs the swing arm or sits on it and the gears start to strip and grind. Soon it just sits there and grinds, with a disappointed cat and an irate owner. What were they thinking? I suspect these are being dumped quickly into the market. And now we have three pieces of junk.

By the way, we have had had a different swing toy for several years now, still going strong. Cost $25. When the cat grabs or stops the arm, it eventually detaches, so there is no damage. Also, it turns off automatically in 15 minutes. It can be done if the designers have half a brain and also don’t use gears made of pasta.

Addendum: Just did a search on this company, Cat’s Meow. An eye-opener, worthy of Federal Trade Commission complaints. Please see for yourself before supporting this company. Amazon might want to reconsider this business arrangement.

Was great at first. Cats loved it. Too bad it barely lasted a month. Great idea bad construction. Motor died quickly. Don’t waste your money.
