Without doubt, you can find catnip toys for less money. &deity knows I’ve bought plenty of them. But after I saw a recommendation for these “catnip sardines” from the author of Sleight of Paw: A Magical Cats Mystery (a novel I do recommend to Cat People), I made the investment. After all, I figured, even if the catnip toys are only “okay,” the tin is kind of cool.
Well, the packaging amuses me — and certainly is fun enough to make this a worthy gift for the Staff of any cat you know. By gift standards it’s a great stocking-stuffer, sure to generate a giggle. (Note to self: Remember this at Christmastime.)
However, I can assert that the catnip toys are not a gag gift as far as the cats are concerned. The toys are well-constructed; really, at this price they ought to be. And the cats have been playing with the one catnip fish I carefully extracted “just to see what they think” for several days. In fact each cat tries to lie on top of the toy, so as to prevent the other from stealing it. I haven’t seen them get this worked up over a single toy in years.
If you’re trying to convince yourself that this is worth the money… Go on. Get it.

My Boscoe is about 2 1/2 yrs old and loves to play. We rescued him as a stray, shortly after I had lost Bonnie, 13yrs old. I live in an apt and Boscoe has been played with by several different people as we have watched him grow. He loves to play with his fishes. I think the box is cute and when he isn’t playing with them I have a neat place to keep them.

We cheated and split one of these between 3 cats, but it worked out okay with no fur flying. This is too, too cool and the tin is devilishly attractive. I highly recommend this for any cat, but especially for crazy cats who like to swat ‘Mr. Fishy’ so hard with their little paws that ‘Fishy’ goes all the way under the fridge to the back wall…we are still working on that one.
