Vine Customer Review of Free Product(What’s this?)
I have 2 kittens still under a year old, so I want to do my best to make sure they get the specific nutrition growing cats require without spending a fortune to get exotic, super-healthy foods. IAMS Proactive Health may not have all the very best ‘raw’ and natural ingredients, but it is certainly a step up over some other brands. And I like the price point. While the two kittens like it well enough, I wouldn’t say they’re wowed by the flavor and have to dig in every time I pour some in their bowl. They will eat it, but they’ll tear though their soft food first. They also seem to stomach it better than some other brands I’ve fed them and the leftovers in the litter box are firmer too.

The little one went absolutely bonkers for this IAMS Proactive Health Kitten Dry Food! I made the mistake of leaving the bag on the floor and the next thing I know, the little monster has it on its side trying to open the top.
This is a god food for kittens as it contains omega-3 DHA which helps to, “promote healthy brain development.” It is made up firstly of chicken but also contains a fiber blend which has, “prebiotics and beet pulp to support digestion and nutrient absorption.” This food which contains Taurine is said to support healthy eyes and the cat’s developing vision.

My four-month-old kittens love this food and accepted it immediately, as did my two elderly gents who, like many older cats, have trouble keeping weight on and do well with calorie-laden kitten kibble as a supplement.
Proactive Health is a decent food – almost a premium food, but the presence of chicken by-product meal and corn meal doesn’t please me. The main ingredients are, in this order: Chicken, Chicken By-Product Meal, Corn Meal, Chicken Fat. While they are enjoying it and I’ve only had one vomit once after eating (almost assuredly because he ate too fast – it’s a habit of his) I’m going to stick to Costco’s Kirkland cat kibble. It contains rice, which is far more digestible for cats, has no by-products, and has all natural supplements and so forth just like this does.
All-in-all, the cats think this is good food, and I’m sure it’s fine if your cats have no problem with corn meal – it should set with kittens just fine. But if you also like to give your older felines kitten food, I’d look for something without corn or by-products.
