Update march 2016: it was called to my attention via a comment that seller upgraded the product to have a different base since I ordered the product in 2013. Since the new model has many similarities, I am leaving the video review of the product as I believe it is still relevant.
Original review:
This scratching pad was an instant hit, both of our kitties were all over it, even the finicky cat. The pad is is made out of thin sisal rope, the brush reminded me of a bottle cleaning brush. The brush is removable and when I first put the pad together I figured they will not like the brush because it was too small for them to walk under it. But clearly they knew better than me how to use it. They began rubbing against the top and the sides. They were not interested in going under it. After over one week of use they have not used the scratching pad all that much, but keep coming back to the brush again and again.
The pad is 19.5″ in diameter, made out of thin sisal rope. The rope is fairly thin so the pad fits 20 rows of rope. The brush is 6 inches from the pad to the bristles at the tallest point, 5.5 inches between the bristles at the widest point on the bottom. The pad and the brush come disassembled, so it can be easily removed if the cat likes the pad but not the brush. It weights 1 pound 2.7 oz with the brush installed. When the cats scratch on the pad position on wood floor it moves a bit. We moved the pad to a carpeted area where it generates more traction and it stays in place.
The scratching pad was provided by manufacturer for testing and review and our cats gives it two paws up.

The base of this grooming unit measures 14 inches square. It is covered with a plush carpet. The brush itself is large, approximately 3 inches across. It is also stiff. The inside of the arch,is about 9 inches and the outside at the tallest point is 12 inches. There are two holes in the base that the brush ends insert into. The brush goes in easily. I made sure that the metal ends were not sticking out of the bottom of the base. This is important the unit is placed on flooring that could be scratched. I received this unit for free in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. I am very pleased that my cats like it and use it!
