I’m so glad Amazon carries this litter. For my cat, the regular litter works better than the clumping litter. The odor is much less which is greatly appreciated in a small apartment and the litter doesn’t clump in inopportune spots, like the kitchen floor. Please keep supplying this product, it is getting hard to find.

this litter does the job. i have 3 cats who use the same litter box and my house doesn’t stink. the clumping litter is too pricey and doesn’t do a better job. go with this one.

I HAVE HAD INDOOR CATS FOR 50 YEARS AND HAVE FOUND THAT FRESH STEP EXTREME LITTER IS THE VERY BEST! i WON’T USE ANY OTHER., December 2, 2014

This is THE VERY BEST LITTER I HAVE EVER USED! I have been moving into a new/old house. I have had a cat litter box in the kitchen under the kitchen table for 4 months. I know HOW GROSS! No other place is practical right now. The other box is in the powder room about 15 feet from the kitchen table. I’m not lying, but, I will tell you I can leave the litter in the box without scooping anything for up to 5 days with NO ODOR! I have 2 hungry 20lb cats. You get the idea.

I am 58 yrs old and have had cats all my life. The old clay was nasty and wasn’t all that absorbant. I had to empty and scrub the boxes often. Then the scooping litter was popular so I used that for some time. The powder got all over everything and up my nose and in my mouth. Also even with the scoopable litter the boxes usually stunk and I had to scrub them out often. I also didn’t like having to bend over to scoop the mess into a bag EVERY day. Over the past year I have tried other clay litters again. Cheap litter was horrible.

I tried this FRESH STEP EXTREME LITTER and am now hooked for the rest of my cat-loving life. After, up to 5 days all I have to do is use my litter scoop to lightly loosen any wetness on the bottom, tip the box into a garbage bag and it all falls out so easily. No muss no fuss! I have let it go longer than 5 days but I feel so sorry for the boys that it is not worth the guilt. Since I have been using this litter the cats have not had an accident anywhere else in the house! That was not always the case with the other litters.Even at 5 days when I do change it there is STILL NO ODOR. I have arthritis so it is difficult to lug the bags home from the store. I found that ordering here on Amazon is so easy. Sure I pay for shipping and it costs more than the cheaper litter, but, I find it so worth it. I have the 21lb bags delivered right to my doorstep and I get a large sturdy box each bag comes in to use for packing donations or books, summer clothes or whatever……. you will not regret trying it. That’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it! Haha Hope you enjoy it. Barb

    A little novella regarding cat litter…, November 23, 2013
    By

I have a story about this product. The litter I’ve been using forever is Arm and Hammer Naturals. Out of all the litters I’ve used, it’s the best smelling, but hardly clumps. I don’t use clay litters because the dust particulates are bad for animals and for humans. And they smell.
I was in Petco buying a new scratching post, when the sales person asked me about litter. They had a promotion going on for the Blue Naturally Fresh litter, and she had a good pitch. I ended up getting an 8lb bag for $5 bucks (retail $10). On the way home I realized I had been the victim of a good sales pitch. That 8 lb bag will only fill my little litter box. The booda box will require at least two bags of this stuff. So that’s 3 bags of litter at $10 a bag per week. Currently I buy a 28lb bag of Arm and Hammer litter for $17 per week. This new litter I had been talked into wasn’t cost effective! I was a bit miffed.
So like other reviewers, I poured this into the box and it does literally look like coffee grounds. My initial thought was that looks kinda gross, but really…are we looking for aesthetically pleasing dirt for our cats to go to the bathroom in? No.
I’ve got a pretty wicked sniffer, and it wasn’t overly “damp-walnutty” smelling like other reviewers said. It also didn’t smell perfumy like I was used to with Arm and Hammer, which was disappointing, but I had purchased this bag of litter, and I was going to use it.
    Now for the good part.
This litter is the greatest litter I have ever used. Period. I will tell you why. I’ve recently promoted and I’m working wicked hours. I come home and I just don’t have the time or energy to scoop the litter. Literally, a whole week went by and I totally forgot to scoop the litters. I have two cats that produce more waste than any animal I’ve ever seen, but….There was absolutely NO smell in my house. NONE. When it dawned on me that I hadn’t scooped the litters in a week, I checked, and yes, they were full….but no smell at all. And the clumping power? No other litter I’ve tried has come close to this litter with performance. I’M SOLD! I’m switching to this litter.
    To sum up:
    Is the litter pretty? No
Does it smell? When you first pour it out, it smells like what it is, walnuts. But then there is literally nothing.
Does it clump? Holy mother of God, this is the best clumping litter
Does it get everywhere? Yes, but so does every other litter I’ve tried (scoop away, arm&hammer, feline pine, etc)
Does it control cat waste odor? I’m going on over 2 weeks since I did a full change of the litter, and it still smells like nothing. You just scoop and scoop and scoop, and it never smells. Amazing.

I’m switching to this brand. And thanking the lady at Petco that sold it to me.

    Pro’s and Con’s but not quite a World’s Best, September 16, 2012
    By
    B Doty

I bought this litter as a possible replacement for Worlds Best and I wanted to see how it performed. There are several pro’s and con’s with this litter. I have two cats and I only buy litters that are flushable because I really hate the process of bagging.

    Pro’s:
    – Clumping power – It clumps far better than World’s Best Multi-cat formula! I mean way better! I don’t understand the reviews that say that it doesn’t clump. Perhaps it doesn’t clump very fast but that is not a problem for me since I only scoop the litter once a day so it has time to dry out.
    – Longevity – It has a little more longevity than World’s Best! With WB, I have to refill it a little more often as it loses it ability to absorb water rather quickly.
    – Smell – It eliminates virtually all of the smells of my cats’ litter box. With World’s Best I have always had to make use of a small air filter device. That isn’t needed with Blue Buffalo.

    Con’s:
    – Really dusty, like REALLY dusty – You seriously need to be careful when you scoop it because the red-brown dust goes everywhere. This also makes it really messy as the cats track this red-brown dust material everywhere and it has a strong adhesion, making it like glue when you are trying to clean it up. Even my housekeeper told me that it was difficult to keep clean.
    – Is this blood? – When it gets wet (and hasn’t completely clumped) it looks a lot like blood which makes it difficult to keep an eye out for potential bowel issues.
    – Doesn’t flush easily – A potential side effect of its clumping power is that it creates massive clumps that are hard to flush. I typically have to use two to three flushes to get everything down even after breaking up the clumps with my scooper.

Note: Your results my vary. One of my cats is diabetic and he tends to urinate very frequently.

Update: After being somewhat disappointed with Blue Buffalo I decided to try mixing it with the World’s Best and I’m very impressed at the results. I’m using about a 1:2 ratio of BB to WB. I find that BB actually bolsters the clumping power and longevity of WB while minimizing the dustiness and flushing issues of BB. I’m about three weeks into this experiment and I’m very pleased with the results.

    Superb product, November 12, 2013
    By
    Cristine (Boulder) –

With a 3-cat household, litter is always a critical issue. I’ve tried nearly all of them and for the last few years have used a very high-end product found mostly at places like Whole Foods. The ingredients were recently changed a bit, however, sending me on the hunt for a new litter. Several employees at the pet store suggested I try the Blue Buffalo clumping walnut litter. I did and could not be more pleased. This is one of the best products I’ve ever used. I’ve tried both the regular clumping and the multi-cat clumping and find them both excellent. As other reviews have indicated, the litter is indeed made of crushed walnuts (the shells, likely). It does look like coffee grounds in color. The regular litter is made of larger chunks of ground walnut, while the multicat litter is made of smaller, more thoroughly ground walnuts. Since we have three cats, I wanted to compare both products. While I like the finer granular structure of the multicat litter and its lighter color (making it slightly easier to see the contents I want to clean out of the box), I didn’t find a significant difference between the two in terms of accommodating multiple cats. Both did a superb job with odor control. There are no urine odors whatsoever with either product, a first in terms of cat litters.

I have found minimal tracking of the litter, which was a concern. Neither the larger nor the finer ground walnut gets tracked much at all, which I cannot say for prior products I’ve used. The small amount of tracking is limited to the first few steps out of the catbox and the amount is absolutely minimal. I see no dust at all, nor do I smell or sense dust in the air. Catbox odors do not migrate through the house, nor do they build up in the “cat room” as they did with other high-end litters (made also of natural ingredients). Previous products (likely corn based) were very difficult to clean up – from the floor, from the box itself, and even from my hands. Once the product came into contact with water, it tended to clump/bind, making it hard to clean the box when I did the thorough box overhauls. This walnut product does not show those characteristics at all, much to my relief.

I can’t rave enough about this product. It clumps well, something I was initially skeptical about. I had been concerned that its granular nature might cause me to go through more of it faster – that the larger grains/chunks might cause more litter to clump together, using up more product. This has not been the case at all. I am not going through any more litter than usual and, much to my surprise, I find the boxes just as easy to clean on a daily basis. The clumps are easy to scoop up, as are other loose materials.

I will likely stick with the regular clumping litter, rather than the multicat. Other households may need the multicat, but I don’t feel it made a difference with our cats. The color is a bit lighter and the grain-size smaller, so fussier cats may prefer the slightly softer texture of the multicat. I did not have to go through any transition with the product and was able to simply swap out litters in one fell swoop. None of the cats hesitated to use the new walnut litter and I introduced the regular (larger granular size) first.

If I had one wish for the product, it would be that the bag was constructed a bit differently. It’s a bit tippy as it is and I do find it easier to use bags that have more squared-off bottoms. I keep an open bag by the litter box and scoop more litter into the box on an as-needed basis. I like having a stable bag that will free-stand safely near the box. This bag is less stable simply because of its design. I understand that the squared-off bottom bags cost a bit more to manufacture and suspect the company opted for the more standard bag as a way to minimize costs.

In summary, I am totally pleased with this product. It has exceeded my expectations. Finding the right litter is always an issue, so I am greatly relieved and very happy to have found the walnut litter.
