This review is from: Ever Clean Extra Strength Cat Litter, Unscented, 25-Pound Box (Misc.)
I used to use the EverClean Extra Strength unscented litter with the blue ribbon and loved it. I did not mind paying the high price because of the great performance I got from the litter in my multi cat household. We have 6 cats now but have had as many as ten in the past.
This new packaging is a result of a new product. IT IS NOT THE SAME LITTER. It took EverClean customer service 6 months to finally tell me the truth. I had to keep emailing them asking about the original product. The final word came from Fresh Step Consumer services.
Thank you for contacting us. Unfortunately, our Ever Clean Premium Clumping Litter is no longer available. Although a great number of consumers enjoyed it as you did, the consumer demand was not substantial enough to warrant our continuing to market this product.
This new litter is AWFUL. It does not hold its clumps so I have to throw out the entire box alot more offten, it can get really gooey and sticks to the pan, and worst of all is the huge amount of dust it produces. The amount of dust is no different, may be worse, then a cheap plain clay litter. I have a concern about the amount of sodium betonite that is in the dust. I don’t want my family or my cats inhaling it. It is also no longer truly unscented. The unscented boxes I have used in the past four months have perfume. I have used EverClean unscented litter for nearly 15 years. With this change they have lost me as a customer.

This review is from: Ever Clean Extra Strength Cat Litter, Unscented, 25-Pound Box (Misc.)
I’ve used this litter for years and I have loved it and so have my cats. Within the last year, it has become enormously dusty. There’s a white layer of dust on my dark hardwood floors surrounding the litter boxes. A cloud of dust comes up and lingers in the air as I clean out the litter boxes. My cats’ fur feels grimy because of the dust. Also, even though it’s supposed to be unscented, it’s heavily perfumed. My cats smell like perfume and I have to wear a mask and take a shower immediately after cleaning the litter box to get all the dust and perfume off me. From reading some of the other reviews, it seems as though the “good” Ever Clean product has been discontinued and they’re repackaging a different kind of litter in it. I guess that’s the problem and the reason for the sudden change. I hope they get these problems worked out and go back to the old formula. I’m currently trying out different litter, but so far haven’t found the solution. It’s definitely not the “Precious Cat Ultra Premium Clumping Cat Litter” because that one traps in the ammonia smell and is driving me and the cats batty. I’ll update this review if I ever find the perfect solution.
UPDATE: I’ve been trying out different brands of litter for the past couple of months and have found a couple that the cats and I can live with now that we’ve broken up with Ever Clean. “Arm & Hammer Clump & Seal” is the winner. It is the consistency of soft sand and doesn’t create any dust. It also clumps nicely. It is ever so slightly scented, but isn’t perfumey enough to be a problem. The “Fresh Home” version (blue band across the bottom of the box) has a slight pine scent. The “Multi-Cat” version (maroon band across the bottom of the box) has a slight clean (bubblegum maybe?) scent. I prefer the “Multi-Cat” scent over the “Fresh Home” but neither scent is strong enough to be a problem for me and give me headaches. A bonus to this litter is that I’ve found it at both Target and the grocery store, so I don’t have to go to a pet store or order it online like I had to with Ever Clean.
The runner up was “Tidy Cat Instant Action”. It is the consistency of traditional gravel litter and it did not have a fragrance. It had a little dust at first, but it wore off pretty quick and it clumped nicely.
The big loser was “Arm & Hammer Multi-Cat Extra Strength Clumping Litter Unscented”. I had to toss it after a day or two because the ammonia smell was overwhelming. It didn’t clump well and just kind of made a mushy mess at the bottom of the litter box.
I hope this review helps you in your quest to find the perfect cat litter. I know how frustrating it can be.

This review is from: Ever Clean Extra Strength Cat Litter, Unscented, 25-Pound Box (Misc.)
Details: No. of Cats: 3 | Age: 2yrs | Hair: Long and short | Sex: Female, spayed | Food of Choice: Blue Buffalo, Indoor formula
Our cat boxes are in our office (in our home) and we don’t want our house to stink so we have tried all types of clumping litter. Seriously…twenty minutes after doing a full litter change, the boxes would stink again with any other litter. We decided we’d buy Ever Clean ONCE and if it didn’t work, well…we’d try something else, as usual.
We threw away the two old litter boxes, along with the other litter, and replaced it with one large litter box filled with Ever Clean, Unscented litter and…I’m writing this review from my office! It doesn’t stink anymore, yay!! The Ever Clean, Unscented litter truly works. There is NO SMELL, it’s completely neutral and I’m amazed every time I scoop the box. Some reviews say it tracks easily and litter is everywhere but I’ve noticed that with every brand so it doesn’t bother me. Some reviews note the price difference and they’re right, it’s more expensive but I contend that it’s actually the same price in the long run because a box of litter lasts longer (sometimes you have to spend money to save money, you know).
Additional Notes: -We chose unscented litter because we suspected that one of our furry friends was allergic to the scented litters we were using. She’s doing just fine now, no more allergy symptoms! -I listed the type of food they eat because I believe that their food determines a) how often they go and b) how bad it smells when they go.
