1st review – 6/17/14: This will be my initial assesment. I have never cut a dogs hair before. My Lion Pro model 9766, came in a somewhat cheap carrying case with 4 guides, a comb, a small brush for cleaning cutter, and a small bottle of oil, a wall charger, and the cutter itself. I charged cutter overnight, but cutter was fully charged within a few hours. It has a convenient charge light on cutter. Light on = charging, light off = fully charged. So next day I oiled the blade, put on a guide, and went to town. IT CUT GREAT! Had to slow down going thru some matting but never had to stop. Then put on a smaller guide for face, paws, and crotch/butt area. I stopped frequently for a few minutes to let my dog de-stress, but never had to stop because the blade got too warm or the internal battery got too warm. Ran just a little warm, nothing like I read about in other reviews of other cutters. My dog is a 23 lb Long Hair/Broken Hair Jack Russel Terrier who was very patient during my clumsy effort at his first haircut by me. Total cutting time was about 30 min. But with frequent stopping raised this to about 50 min. The unit itself fit well into my averaged sized man’s hand. Very little vibration. Noise level was low it seemed to me but have never tried another dog trimmer. From reading other reviews of other products; WAHL, OSTER, and ANDIS, mostly, some units can be very loud. It has a blade depth adjustment on left side but I have not used it and am not sure yet how to use it. Seems to function smoothly. The unit looks good being black with a silver inlay and a blue charge light on the silver. The Wahl logo in green on black also looks sharp. Like I said, it fits well in my hand and is not that heavy. Don’t get me wrong, it has got weight to it. The motor seems to have good power and that means some weight, but did not feel super heavy. Guides are just plastic but seem sturdy enough and worked great! The blade itself, Wahl p/n: 1045, can be replaced for about $12 from Amazon. Dirt cheap. The 1045 blade set is equivalent to a #30 blade. An all around blade that worked well for me. Other blade sizes are available for course and fine work. The whole unit/kit from Amazon was only $49. Great price for a , so far, great product. I have given it 5 stars on the basis of my initial experience with this unit. I will add follow up comments as time goes by and I get to see how this cutter performs over the long haul. If there are any defects or issues with this unit they will have to show up over time because my initial outing with the Wahl 9766 Lithium Ion Pro Series Home Pet Clipper kit was a very good one and left me feeling happy with my purchase.

After getting tired of using a groomer for $100-$150 a pop I invested in this set for my cat. I have a highland snow leapord lynx and he has very soft thick hair that is long. He matts so bad! These clipper take the hair off no problem and cuts right through the matts. I’m so glad I went with this set. It’s really hard to find a set for cats since everything is advertised for dogs but this one works well on my cat and dog.

These are my first set of pet clippers and I got them to use on my poodle mix. He’s 2 now and his fur grows way faster than it did last year. A month after getting shaved his fur was already three inches long and he was overheating in the summer heat! I finally decided to try my own hand at grooming him. These clippers made it pretty idiot proof which I appreciated exponentially! You can see from the pictures they did awesome on my little guy.
Pros: They worked very well and its basically impossible to nick your dog while the guard is on, even if you accidentally press it into loose skin. Before using it on him I tried it every which way on my arm to see if it’d cut me and it wouldn’t. I love that it’s cordless and the charge lasts a long time. I had two sessions on him and both were an hour long. The clippers never lost their charge or anything during this time. The clippers went through his long fur like butter most of the time, even in places that weren’t brushed out as well. The kit also comes with round tip grooming scissors which I really appreciated.
Cons: If these are considered quiet clippers I don’t want to hear loud ones! My dog didn’t mind the noise (he’s gone to the groomers many times) and it didn’t hurt my ears or anything, but it did give me a slight ringing in my ears/ made things sound funny for a bit after I shut them off. Also these clippers DO get pretty hot. As I said, I was using them pretty much continuously for an hour at a time. Where I was holding the clippers I could feel it get really warm and if I took off the guard and touched the blades they were almost hot enough to actually burn your skin. HOWEVER, you can still use them if you are using a guard and it gets this hot as the heat, while it does transfer through some, doesn’t get burning level hot on the plastic guard. At most the guard just got very, very warm. The guard also covers up completely the hottest area so you can continue to shave your pet without fear of burning them. Expect to get covered in sweat if you do this, however! This might be a problem if you have a dog that overheats easily, although my dog (mini poodle sized) didn’t seem to care or be bothered at all. Also, at some points I had to turn off the clippers, take off the guard, and get all the hair out of it as it built up and slowed them down. I only needed to do this three or four times during, however, and it takes no time at all as most of the time I could just blow it off. The case is really, really cheap plastic and has no compartments, but its good to just keep all your grooming supplies together.
Packaging cons: The air bags that were inside the actual case weren’t inflated so the contents inside (including the clippers) were subjected to the mailing process, especially since they were all just loose in the case. No problems from that (yet, at least) however. Also, the instruction manual that came inside had a mysterious brown stain on it. It almost looked like coffee, but it wasn’t from any of mine! The stain was dry and I noticed it right after opening the case. It was really weird… I just tried to not touch that area. lol
Overall, the pros outweigh the cons to me. It worked wonderfully on my dog and they were pretty idiot proof as far as potentially hurting your dog (as long as you use the guards, of course). They were on sale for about the same price as one grooming session, so they’ve already paid for themself! I’m really glad I got these clippers instead of one of Wahl’s cheaper pet clipper kits.
