Thank for My New Vet Bills., December 24, 2015
    By

My cat has been crystal free for years after his first urinary issues began. After the treatment and perscription foods my vet said I can switch to a maintenance food and that Purina had one. He was fine on Purina but I started doing research on other brands and discovered Wysong Uretic. It was excellent for my cat but hell on my wallet. So when Hills came out with an over the counter urinary I decided to try it out. Mind you over three years and my cat has been crystal free! Well, within months of being on this food, imagine my surprise when I woke up to my cat straining over the litter box. I took him to the vet and they found found he did, in fact, have crystals. Of course I told them what I had changed him to, which they had not heard Hills had an over the counter. After calls to the company it was discovered that this is NOT a maintenence food. It is not meant for cats with a history of urinary issues but to prevent urinary issues. That sounds pretty underhanded. You want something that works? Purina Pro Plan Urinary Tract, plus the kibble are ridiculously large.

Willy Really Loves It, August 11, 2015

This new Hill’s Science Diet Cat Food cat food gets five stars because Willy loves it. Willy really likes to do taste tests. My plan was to put samples of his old cat food and the new Hill’s Science Diet Cat Food in bowls next to each other for the taste test. As I filled the bowls on the kitchen counter, I accidentally dropped one piece of the Hills on the floor. Willy scooped it up and then got really excited. He meowed for more.

When I placed the bowls on the floor, he went for the Hill’s first. I moved him back to the old food. He ate that. I moved him back and forth several times. He ate from the bowl that was in front of him. Willy seems to like everything that I give him, but he was certainly pleased by the Hill’s. Besides, he looks like the photo on the bag.

Willy is a large gray tabby, who now weighs around 13 pounds. When I adopted him, he was a skinny 11 pounds. He had been living on the streets of New York City. After several months of eating only dry food, he became a round 16 pounds. I switched to mostly canned food and some dry food for treats. After a while, he slimmed down to his present 13 pounds. I intend to keep giving him mostly canned food, but also the new Hill’s Science Diet for treats.

Our fourteen-year-old tabby is overweight, and our vet recently recommended that we consider shifting from bulk generic cat food to a healthier low fat or urinary health blend. I was pleased to give this Science Diet food a try – a brand that our family has used regularly in the past for our dogs.

Our cat can be a picky eater, though he’ll try just about anything once. Sometimes food does not agree with him and he might get sick. That did not happen with Science Diet which apparently has achieved the remarkable feat of creating a food that is both healthy and tasty for cats. That’s a win-win for everyone.

Although clearly more expensive that the bulk bags from Sam’s Club, I think this Science Diet is a worthwhile consideration, especially for older cats like mine who are less active and more prone to health issues. Recommended.
