The rattle made this an instant favorite with the cats. I loved it because it’s slightly larger than other rattle mice and it does not easily slide under the piano like their others. It still goes under the stove though. I guess any larger and the cats wouldn’t like to carry it around.
After a couple weeks, the fabric started to unravel a bit. The fabric is about the size of the tail portion, wound around a body plastic shell, and at one portion it became unwound. It is a stretchy fabric so there’s some give. The cats still liked to toss but not quite as voraciously as before. It’s to be expected when the cats attack it with their strong jaws. In the wild feral cats kill live beasts, of course domesticated critters will destroy some fabric.
Through their intense biting the shell of the body held up very well. Previous rattle mice would open up the plastic body and the cats swallowed the stone rattlers (!) but these bodies are better constructed.
I’ll definitely buy more of these next time I need a couple dollars to boost me into the Amazon free shipping pricing.
UPDATE: 4/30/2011 I’ve lowered my review from 4 stars to 3 stars. Just found the cat has bitten the body in half. It felt like higher grade than the others, but apparently it’s just as malleable as the rest.
UPDATE 2: 5/17/2011 I’ve had to lower it again from 3 to 2 stars. Just found cat vomit with pieces of the toy inside. Wait! Pieces of *2* different mice inside: colored fabric along with the interior plastic portions. My cat loves it too much and is able to destroy and consume it before I’m able to recover the pieces. I think it gives the cats a flossing effect to chew down on the fabric. Since it nearly caused a blockage in my cat I suggest to use only under supervision.

These look and sound nothing like a real mouse. I can’t imagine them even looking edible. But my cat, one of the pickiest toy snobs I’ve ever known, goes absolutely crazy for these. Maybe it’s something about the stripey coloration. Perhaps they look like they’re moving to a cat’s eye? Whatever the case may be, these are the only toys that my cat will actually start to attack relentlessly as soon as he sees one on the floor. Even the KONG Naturals Crinkle Ball with Feathers Cat Toy, Colors Vary, 2-Pack which he loves so much still requires me to toss it around a few times before he gets into it. But with these toys, I made the mistake of leaving one on my bedroom floor last night and he played with it for HOURS before getting tuckered out, and the next morning he was so excited to start playing with it again!
He also gets stuck in an adorable feedback loop, where he picks up the tail in his mouth, starts to trot around proud about his “kill,” and then when the mouse rattles a bit he drops it, surprised, and then tries to kill it again. He becomes his own worst enemy, in a way.

My 6 month old kitten goes completely batty for these little guys. Dunno why, but one of the mice doesn’t rattle as well as the others and Calvin mostly ignores it unless he can’t find any of the others to play with. So there must be something about the noise that he likes as well. And considering how much he plays (or abuses) them, the mice are holding up very well. Highly recommend!
