Cat toys should meet the same requirements as toys for toddlers., November 26, 2014

A couple of concerns with this toy. First, the end piece is narrow enough that a cat can swallow it. I have a cat that once swallowed a small mouse toy on a wire. I was able to pull it back out, via the wire, but after that happened I have been very careful about the size of cat toys. A website I looked at recommended that cat toys meet the same requirements as a toy for a toddler. No small parts that can come loose, no parts small enough to fit into their throat. I still like this toy, I just don’t allow my cats to play with it unsupervised. The wire is also something to be careful with, you can hurt the cat if you yank it too hard and they have it between their paws or in their mouth. With all that out of the way, the toy is excellent for my high energy cat. The wire makes the toy jerk around slightly, which really engages her. You can also make it bounce up and down in an unpredictable manner, which also gets my cat fired up. All in all, it’s a good toy, but could be improved by increasing the size On a side note, my cat will smack me on my leg if I attempt to put the toy up before she’s ready to stop playing. I think that’s a good endorsement.

Update: I ended up getting rid of the toy and finding something safer. Also per the comment below, I should not have pulled the other toy out of her throat:

If your cat (or any other organism in your care) ever swallows something attached to a wire/string again, DON’T try to pull it back out. If it’s too far down the animal’s throat, trying to pull the toy out could severely damage their esophagus. Instead, get your animal to a vet asap.

One of the best wand toys ever…, August 19, 2015

This toy is awesome. I read a few of the negative reviews here, and I felt the need to add my own. Two things… First, this toy is meant for you to play with your cat, not to be left for your cat to play alone. For this reason, I don’t find the small size of the actual toy a problem; furthermore, I always complain about larger toys, since my cats couldn’t care less about them (all 8 of them), and I find that this small toy actually makes them go crazy! -they just can’t get enough, and I love that someone finally made a high quality toy that is small enough to keep them interested. Combined with the wire – my second point -, this toy resembles a dwelling bug, which are a big favorite of our little guys. The wire makes the movement a bit unpredictable, which makes it more interesting for them. On a side note, you know how cats love thin string and they swallow it, no matter how long, if left unattended? Well, one of my cats is completely obsessed with string, and it doesn`t matter if we hide the toys as best as possible, she manages to find them, break the string loose, and swallow it when we’re not home. We had to stop buying any kind of toy with string, so we were very happy to be able to buy this knowing that she couldn’t break it and scare the hell out of us wondering if she’d get sick. I highly recommend this toy to anyone willing to spend some time playing with their cat(s). It is pricey, but it is durable and totally worth the price.

Customer Video Review Length:: 0:16 Mins

    UPDATE: 04/11/15
I have given in and bought another after my electrical mishap. There’s just no other toy like this on the market and my cat is back to playing like a hyper kitten again. Sigh. I guess that I am going to have to be more careful and make sure the toy is put up securely. I still stand by my original review. I’ve had it for a few hours and they’ve already demanded lots of play time. She’s still taking it to “her lair” which I’m trying to keep her from doing. I have a video I’ll try and upload of what happens when I don’t let her leave with it. She grounds her feet and pulls like she’s a dog. Anyway, be careful with this toy.

My cat loves this toy so much. I mean she’s obsessed with it. That’s the only good thing I’ve found about this toy. If you get this toy please be careful when swinging it. The wire hurts. The toy (the worm part) even hurts given enough speed. The wire is extremely annoying. It’s not a type of wire you can control at all. You just kinda have to go with the flow with this toy. The bottom green part comes off almost immediately and it doesn’t stay on. The toy also comes off of the round wire part A LOT so I had to clamp it with pliers to try and keep it from sliding off the loop of the ring. I generally don’t leave their special toys out but my one cat demands 30 minutes of play a good 8 – 10 times a day with this toy. I wish I were joking. She’ll do her flips and leaps and then play tug of war with it until you let go and let her take it to her “lair” to kill her prize. I can’t let her do that anymore because last month she grazed an electrical socket with it and it charred the socket and part of my power went out. The cat is okay thank goodness but I threw out that toy and 3 backups I had of it. I’m going to go review his other toy like this now but please, it’s not worth it. I would recommend Neko flies or something else. Just not this. Good idea, but poorly executed.
