DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT – EVER, May 1, 2014

This review is from: Hartz Ultraguard Plus Flea &Tick Cat Collar (Misc.)
This product caused my cat to become lethargic and ill. Additionally, there was extreme hair loss and oozing around the neck area. DO NOT BUY THIS UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR PET TO BE POISONED.

We contacted Hartz customer service, customer care, and over five other numbers before they hung up on us multiple times. They were rude, disrespectful, and NO HELP AT ALL. They did not care that my cat was sick or dying, nor did they care that their product was absolutely the cause. You can attempt calling them, but they will not help you.

While speaking calmly, Anthony (From Customer Affairs – NOT the manager, even though we specifically asked for a manager) began yelling and questioning why we would want our attorneys to contact them. He then began asking how we could even afford an attorney, before hanging up without so much as helping our issue.

They say that only attorneys can contact their legal department, which is false, as customers must be able to contact them as well. They cite “company policy” while they do nothing to help. We are hoping, however, to form a class-action lawsuit. Please contact me at: mgodoy25@berkeley.edu if you had any issues regarding this product as well.

We are not going to stand for Hartz and their negligence. We repeat – DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!

Hartz killed my fur baby!, November 22, 2015

This review is from: Hartz Ultraguard Plus Flea &Tick Cat Collar (Misc.)
Do not, I repeat, DO NOT buy this collar. I appreciate that Hartz collars may be the cheapest flea and tick collars, but they’re the worst you can give your furry friend.

I had two cats, a 6 year old black and white Norwegian forest named Midnight and a 4 year old short haired tabby named Pepper. Back in May I was cutting back a few 700 dollars a month because the place where I was working at the time hadn’t paid me since last November and human services weren’t keeping up with their end of checking in and seeing what was the matter. I bought one from my local Target for Midnight as he would try to escape from my apartment, and right outside the apartment where I live is a huge forest. Midnight has already had fleas once (when I adopted him in 2010) and it was horrible and he was absolutely miserable, so I wanted to spare his fate of suffering through fleas again.

For the first two weeks everything was fine that is until I noticed that he wasn’t eating and drinking at all. So I called my vet and the assistant recommended trying a different brand of cat food and mixing his wet food with his dry. Midnight would approach the food, sniff it, and then walk away. I made an appointment for the vet to look at him, and the assistant told me that the soonest that my vet would come home from the hospital (that same week my vet had gotten into a car accident) was a week from now. Three days later when I was on the phone with a client, Midnight was peacefully sitting on my lap when he started to hack, wheeze, and cough. And it wasn’t the “I have a hairball coming get the paper towels” wheezing and before I could react he throws up blood all over myself, the chair and the carpet.

I rushed Midnight to the emergency room across town and I may have acted like a psycho cat lady having a panic attack because Midnight was still hacking and wheezing. It wasn’t until the stoner faced clerk saw Midnight puke blood that she got in gear and admitted Midnight into the back room. I waited what felt like an eternity in the waiting room and finally one of the vets called me forward and told me that my fur baby was anemic and he had renal failure. He said that Midnight wasn’t going to make it, and to spare him any pain, he offered to put him down. Midnight died June 27th at 10:34 am.

After Midnight died, Pepper’s peppy attitude began to deteriorate. She has become less vocal, she only eats whenever she sees me eating, she follows me everywhere, and she has become a lot more skittish, hiding whenever I have friends over (people whom she has known when she was a kitten!).

I had no idea that trying to save money during a desperate time would cost me my baby. RIP my sweet child, I miss you dearly.

After several days of wearing Hartz ultra guard all the fur around my cats neck had been burned off as well as the skin that was underneath the collar. Please do not buy this for the safety of your own cat.
